I hope those who have a 401k can weather the incoming sunammi!
I'm 25 years from drawing from it. Maxed out annual contributions, though, but I wonder if lowering that during the drop that's happening is the smart play.
Shift your assets to bonds the month before election, then after election when market goes down switch them all back to aggressive stocks and make bank and protect yourself during the run up to election with the $ you made
I switched my 401K and my ROTH to aggresive small cap in March. Will be doing something similar to what you are suggesting and putting it somewhere more safe, very soon. Curious though, how moving into Bonds would work. Do I not need to let those bonds sit for awhile and wait for the payoff before moving back into something aggressive shortly after the election?

Have also been making moves for about the last month from switching my personal stocks to ETF's. Trying to minimize this hit most are expecting as much as possible. If I moved into bonds instead of ETF's in say November, would I not need to wait until at least February to get the return on them? Or does the return on it go up every day?

Why put all your savings into a casino that will never pay off?

lol. How does making money equate to not paying off?

I'll break it down to you again, since you seemed to miss the last time I quoted you here...

If you invested at the worst time in the history of the stock market, which was back in 2008 when the DOW was around 14000 and dropped to around 7000 in a few months, you'd still be up around 120% today. Just 12 years, and you more than doubled your investment...by doing so at the worst possible time to invest money.

If you are still confused, here is a chart to help you. The 14K bit starts a bit before this chart takes off, but its still there.

Image

Now, if you simply just put your money into a banking savings account around the same time...how much has your money grown? Is it even comparable to this?

I'll throw out the same number I did last time I quoted you. Say you had 50K you could either put in a savings account at a bank, or invest in the market...at the worst possible time to invest in the market. That 50K is now 110K in the stock market, and your money placed in a savings account that gives you 1-2% interest is now, what? 60k? This again, happening at the worst possible time in the history of the market to invest.

Pretty sure you get the daily returns of the bonds it’s just not as large as a stock investment, however a lot more safety with a bumpy forecast ahead. Everyone is saying a massive dip is coming so be ready to shift the assets back to stocks as soon as you think the market has bottomed out. In my 401k there are several bond options I’m going to look into. Right now I’m heavy in growth stocks...Large, medium and small...small is killing me but least amount of my $ there. Just want to make sure you don’t lose all the gains you have...when covid hit lost 35% of my portfolio value, I just doubled down and increased my monthly contribution to 30% of my paycheck to get stocks at lower value and now am up almost 15% from where I started

that's a beautiful chart until the very end. that looks like a double top right there. time will tell if it precludes some serious retracing for a couple of years.

also all of this day to day stuff means nothing to a long-term investor. if you're dollar cost averaging on a quarterly basis for years it's actually nice when you get some down quarters/years so you can buy more. i'd probably buy the spyders if i had 20-30 years before retirement with something like 75 percent of the investment money.

Stocks are a great way to build wealth. Which is why racist liberals don’t want it.

That’s not a lib bro. Liberals think minorities should be forced to be dependent on gov because they can’t to it themselves. Epitome of racism. Selfish individuals who only care about their own wealth. They got to where they are from white priv and want to make sure that their families will be wealthy forever with no competition.
