Even with the split coming? I could be remembering wrong, but I feel like every other split they’ve had causes the stock to fly once it happens.

I guess it seemed more prudent to buy a quarter position now, then when it splits I’d already be set for the rush.

Yeah, I'll grab a little more. Price will pop again after the split.

not looking too close to see the individual movers-but a look at the dow and nasdaq points to a bifurcated market right now. big tech and then everything else. i could see walmart being a winner going forward too-but outside of that where are the winners from the big caps?

I got bit a little on an XOM put. Forced me to but it for a bit over what it's currently going for, but not the end of the world because dividends and it'll bounce back. I'll write calls against it to recoup a little of what I "lost".

I bought into Apple right before the 7-1 split in May 2014. I cannot believe how fortunate I've been with this stock so far. I'm assuming the August 4-1 split will be around the $400 range meaning the shares will be about $100/each.. and I see no issue with the stock getting back to $120ish by Christmas time, if not higher.

So I got this ABBV stock as a tip from my aunt who has made bank in her life playing the market...but now that I've built my own strategy of stocks I buy, I look at their numbers and the debt is so alarming. I've made money on it so far, but it's been tanking lately. Always thought I'd hold it long term for their absurd dividend, but I just don't feel safe with it....high debt/equity, high P/E, high EV/EBITDA (relative to industry)...all things that send red flags to me when looking for stocks.

Having a conundrum of keeping or dropping, as the potential for growth in the company is so high, but the numbers I like to look at suck. Also my aunt who is a millionaire in big part from stocks loves this one. Also the websites I use to guide me like the stock as well.

Thinking of selling, and moving that money into Aarons (AAN). My wife has me manage her account, and I moved a small amount of her money there and its done well. She doesn't invest too much though, so its small beans she has there. I want more of our money there....Great PEG, great debt/equity, great EV/EBITDA...only concerning thing there is the absurd cash flow/share. For cash flow/share, you want that number around, or lower than 5....AAN is an astounding 35. If it was even like 10 which would still be absurdly high, I'd hop in with my pants down. Basically this stock exceeds every number I look for, except one, and that one is so insanely far off.

One stock I have quite a bit of confidence in right now is ORN. I have more money in there than I like to have, but the price for it is just too enticing. I don't like it as a long term option, but is a quick short option for anyone looking to make some quick money. It's at about 2.88 right now, and was flirting with $3 all week (its also shot over $4 multiple times, and over $5 once in after hours in the last 6 weeks). It could go as high as 8-10, but I'll unload if it ever hits $4. If youre looking to buy something, consider this one. Their bottom seems to be about 2.70, so I'd highly consider it any time its below 3. Ive bought in 3 different times, and my average price paid is 2.79

oh, and one more thing, ATT is an awesome long term. It's by no means going to just show massive growth out of nowhere, but is about as stable of a stock as there is. No swings really, it will never alarm you by going too low, or go too high and make you think you gotta sell and make your money right then. Just collect the fantastic dividends they pay for a life time with it, and at the moment, look to add any time its below $27-$30. It basically works like a bond, but unlike a bond, the stock price will go up as the market goes up.

I just don’t understand these numbers we are seeing right now? Spending is down on everything. Unemployment is way up. We will hit that overvalue number again before a vaccine is even out there. No government stimulus. Washington a mess.

Yet people continue to buy. It is more of a safe haven at this point, but my fear is if a company gets bad news the stock will drop much lower than usual. People need money to spend at the tech companies and if job loss at this rate continues over a long period how does that continue?

I will keep my money in gold. Been there since 2009. Pulled everything in March and bought more. Sure I bought a few stocks of the big boys then, but just seems risky still. The fed can’t prop this us forever.

No institution/fund etc is buying based on those metrics, especially post Lehman.

I’m up “biggly” for the year because I pulled out in Feb and then shoved back in (that’s what she said).

Watching every day now with a view to pull out again.

Also hoping for Nigel to comment on your post.

look at Goldman's gdp forecasts for 2021, based on when a vaccine hits...that's what's the market is looking at, the big picture...

but also, on a more current time scale, there are dozens of tech companies who are expanding profit margins right now at an unreal pace. And it's not the Fed per se "propping" anything up. It's the fact that WHERE ON EARTH ARE YOU GOING TO GET YIELD other than the stock market? It's FOMO that will drive this market, for many, many years to come, not the Fed.

Gold is great, I think it goes a lot higher too. But it won't go anywhere near as high as stocks (STONKS) will, even if (when?) "inflation" hits. S&P 10,000 by 2030, book it.

Also, and this is very important. The Dollar is NOT being devalued by anything going on right now. Just the opposite. Demand for USD has never been higher and will only increase as our deficit does. 9/10 people don't understand that and will argue about it. They're wrong, and it's a big reason why so many people underperform in markets like this. They get scared of what they don't understand and "sit out" until things makes sense. That sitting out kills you in investing.

With AAPL at $460 now, what do you think it does going into the split and then right out of the split? I really thought that people were expecting around $400 at the time of the split. I think it may still do that, either right before or right after. I still think life post split will be good though. Soon people will forget its actual value and push it back up again.

Open an account with an online broker. (Like etrade).
Fund it with some cash. (usually with a transfer from an online bank account)

Find a stock you want to buy, and click buy.
Set the number of shares.
Watch the performance.

Many people "Buy and hold".
You buy a fund called an ETF (exchange traded fund). It's a fund that carries portions of shares of many companies and pretty much goes up or down similar to the whole stock market.

VTO or VTI would be your option there.

If you want to be more risky, trade independent stocks. (Like Apple AAPL, Amazon, AMZN, etc., or do some research to find your own diamond in the rough that might go up in price).

I don't use the criteria you're calling out. I usually do ETF's and gut bets.

A small amount of huge corporations makeup too much of the Dow Jones, nasdaq, etc.

There’s a big bubble and we’ve already used up most of the interest rate cuts and monetary stimulus available to us, not to mention fiscal stimulus.

This winter is going to be very interesting.

Eventually, the US economy is going to separate from the stock exchange metrics.

I don't believe the U.S. economy is doing well right now, or has been for a bit. But the stock market continues its run.

It hasn’t happened yet, no. We’re in uncharted territory right now. Interest rates have never been lower, stimulus has never been higher. If Covid runs wild this winter, which I believe it will, we could very easily be careening toward a cliff with no brakes. About the only brakes we would have are negative interest rates for lenders and repealing the Asshole’s tariffs.
